The cost of private rehab in New Zealand

Understanding what affects the cost of rehab, what a stay at Keystone includes and what to consider when choosing the right support.

What drives the cost of rehab

Cost is one consideration. Quality of care, level of support and aftercare are equally important.

The cost of rehab in New Zealand for alcohol and drug dependence varies depending on the type of treatment, the level of support and the length of stay. Private residential rehab sits at the more intensive end: it includes accommodation, chef-prepared meals, a structured daily programme and around-the-clock support, which is why it costs more than outpatient or community-based options.

The main factors

  • Type of treatment. Private residential rehab includes accommodation, structured support and a more intensive level of care than outpatient programmes.
  • Length of stay. Longer programmes generally require more support. Our core programme is 30 days; read more about how long rehab lasts.
  • Level of support and personalisation. The amount of structure, one-to-one therapy, staff-to-guest ratio and ongoing care included all influence pricing.
  • Environment and accommodation. A private, residential setting with your own room offers a more focused and supportive setting for recovery.
  • Therapeutic inclusions. Individual AOD therapy, group therapy, recovery mentoring, clinical psychology where appropriate, movement and wellbeing practices.
  • Aftercare planning. Ongoing support after treatment is an important part of long-term recovery, and should be part of what you’re paying for.

While cost is an important consideration, the quality of care, level of support and aftercare planning are equally important when choosing the right programme. If you’re unsure what type of support is needed, understanding the difference between detox and rehab can help. Funding and payment

Funding and payment

Keystone Lodge is a private, self-funded programme.

Treatment at Keystone is funded privately by guests and their families. We don't currently have an ACC or health-insurance funded pathway.

Payment options and plans are discussed when you enquire, so you know exactly what a stay will cost before you commit. Accommodation, meals, therapy, movement and 12-month aftercare are all part of the programme.

James will talk you through the options in a confidential, obligation-free conversation.

Cost of rehab questions

Common questions about the cost of rehab and what to consider when comparing options.

Ask us a question
What should I look for when choosing a private rehab in NZ?

Consider whether the programme offers individualised treatment, appropriate addiction therapy, structured daily support, relapse-prevention planning and aftercare. It is also worth asking about the residential environment, staff, privacy, accommodation and how the programme will be tailored to your individual circumstances.

A good first step is speaking directly with the treatment provider and asking questions about how their programme actually works.

How much does rehab cost in NZ?

Costs vary depending on the type of programme, length of stay and level of support. Private residential rehab typically includes accommodation, structured daily support and a more intensive level of care, so it is priced differently from outpatient or community options.

The best way to understand the cost of treatment at Keystone Lodge is a confidential conversation with our team, who can recommend the right programme for your circumstances and talk through the next steps.

Why does private rehab cost more?

Private rehab includes accommodation, structured support and a more intensive environment. At Keystone Lodge that means a private bedroom, meals prepared daily by our in-house chef, individual and group therapy, recovery mentoring, personal training and a private four-acre rural setting away from everyday triggers.

What is included in rehab cost?

Programmes may include accommodation, daily support and aftercare planning. At Keystone Lodge, your stay includes a private bedroom, all meals prepared by our chef, daily group therapy, one-to-one therapy with an AOD Counsellor and assigned Keyworker, recovery mentoring, three personal training sessions a week, Pilates, breathwork and mindfulness, offsite 12-step meetings and our 12-month aftercare programme.

Does programme length affect cost?

Yes. Longer programmes typically involve more support and resources. Keystone’s core programme is 30 days, and the right length of stay is guided by each person’s circumstances, recovery needs and goals.
